MY NAME IS LOU PERALTA I’M RUNNING FOR MAYOR OF CALIFORNIA CITY, CA I WOULD BE HONORED IF YOU WOULD VOTE FOR ME. I am running for mayor because I believe I have a vision for California City, a vision that has not been articulated since Mr. Nat Mendelsohn, first bought 80,000 acres in 1958 to construct his vision of California City. He thought of California City as a model city that would soon rival other cities. The fabulous outdoors and expansive recreation possibilities were his main thrust. I intend to follow his vision.
I’m not a politician and I will not campaign as a politician. Moreover, if you were to ask me for details of the most current issues of the city, I will confess that I would need to do more research in order to be conversant in these matters. I must tell you, however, that most of our current city officials are not as well informed either. As an example, at a recent city council meeting, we heard reports of City funds paying for loans, judgments and other reasons, which no city official knew its geneses. Granted, a few of theses were from previous administrations whose records are not easily available.
On the other hand, I believe that the most important quality of a mayor (which is tantamount to being a CEO of a corporation – in fact, he/she is the de-facto CEO of the city) is to be able to “delegate.” None was better than perhaps our greatest president in the modern era, Ronal Reagan, who was a master delegator. By no means do I suggest comparing myself to Ronald Reagan. However, I do remember, when I attended management school in the early ‘60s, while working for Union Bank, that the first thing I was taught before I took a management position, was to learn how to entrust, assign, and yes, delegate, then sit back and make intelligent decisions based on input received. That is an excellent formula, which I’ve learned to apply to our businesses. However, I will not just sit back and wait for results. As a professional promoter/organizer, I too, learned a long time ago that you have to go after what you want.
People who have known me for years have often heard me speak of bringing “happy money” to this city. That’s money that people would rather spend here, than anywhere else. “Happy money” is typically attributed to moneys spent in entertainment, sports, recreation and tourism--fun things. We have limited venues here in California City to make it possible for people to spend. But, that is not to say that we could not create additional resources in the short term.
In fact, that is why I would like to become your Mayor. That is the first challenge I wish to tackle if elected. An important ingredient of my platform is that I strongly believe we can offer a plethora of fun things to do in California City if we begin now! There is no time to waste.
